There are many ways that we can learn and grow as a person. However, one of the best avenues to genuinely dig deep and learn in depth about a topic, including personal growth, is through books. I have fallen in love with many books that cover the topic of personal growth and come at it from every angle.

I just had to share with you some of the books I fell in love with, along with some books that I’ve really been wanting to read. If you’re looking to grow as a person, in general, and simply need a bit of help, whether it’s inspiration to keep going or how to move forward, these books just might be for you.

How Successful People Think

Many people think that a book like this is only for business people or those focusing on their career. This isn’t the case. Being successful connects to multiple aspects in life. Being successful in your career or business is definitely a huge aspect in life. However, being successful in relationships, friendships, with family, etc. is just as vital and important.

In such a fast-paced world, we have to know how to be a leader and take control of how we think and interact with ourselves and others. It takes an intentional state of mind and thought process to be successful. This book teaches you how to find and take hold of this mindset.

Girl, Wash Your Face

This book has been raved about time and again by many women across the world. It almost has 5 stars after 10,000+ reviews on Amazon alone. There’s a reason for this…it’s a REALLY good book! All of us, especially as women, can struggle with lies that we tell ourselves. For example, many of us believe we’re behind where we’re supposed to be in life and are a failure because of it. Of course, there are many other lies that get fed to us by society and even ourselves that just aren’t true.

This book covers the various lies the author told herself throughout her life and the modes she used to eradicate those lies. Of course, she admits that some of the modes she mentioned were ways she wished she would have used but, has now learned her lesson and wants to pass on what she has learned through her struggles. This book is an empowering read and I couldn’t recommend it more.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k

Although the title may seem bold and in your face, sometimes that’s how we have to be with ourselves and the world around us in order to grow. Too many of us can be pushovers and not really take a good handle on our lives and our interactions with others. We allow others to control our happiness too much because we can care too much about what others think. This can lead to us putting on a fake face or fake demeanor when dealing with certain situations and people which can result in a very unhappy life.

This book is all about letting go of the perceptions we think we need to fill and keep and allowing ourselves to be real. This in turn will allow us to release all that garbage and weight on our shoulders so we can truly be happy and free.

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

Many times, it’s not anyone or anything around us holding us back, it’s ourselves. This can be a hard habit to break out of simply because it’s hard to realize it’s ourselves in the first place.

This wonderful book is written by a Stanford University psychologist. His concept is that our mindset about ourselves and our interactions with others is everything. In other words, if success is what you want but, you have a fixed mindset that you’re not able to succeed at what you want to do, odds are, you truly aren’t going to succeed. However, those that conduct their lives with an open mindset, believing they can accomplish a great many things are usually the successful ones. It’s impossible to sum up the gold nuggets in this book.

The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth

Many of us believe that growth is just something that each person finds once they finally stumble onto something that clicks with them. Although this is true, how does a person finally stumble onto this truth and realization? Is there an easier way than just blindly searching?

In this book, John Maxwell lays out the 15 ways you can reach your highest potential. It doesn’t involve searching around in the dark until you finally bump into something. It involves directing yourself with purpose and direction to make the most out of your abilities and potential.

You are a Badass

In this day and age, it’s so easy to doubt ourselves and the abilities we have. With so many great people with amazing accomplishments under their belt, it can feel pointless and worthless to try and push ourselves to our biggest potential. However, it doesn’t have to be something grand for it to give meaning to your life.

This book is all about the fact that each one of us is amazing and has a lot to offer this world. This book teaches you to get past the doubt in yourself and find the amazing super hero we all have lying beneath the surface, ready and waiting to do great things.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Too many of us live a life without purpose. We kind of muddle through each day hoping that a purpose will just fall in our lap or find us. That’s not how it works. Some are lucky, and purpose just hits them in the face. However, for the average person, you have to take life by the horns and develop or establish your own purpose.

A life filled with purpose is directed by healthy and organized habits. This book is all about the top seven habits of effective people in society. Do you want to be a functioning person with purpose or, be basically useless because you’re clueless? This is one of my all time go-to books. I reread it about once every couple years and discover more insight each time.

The Four Agreements

This book, full of Toltec wisdom, leads a person to their best self by teaching them to get out of their own way. Mindset, most of us know, can make or break a person’s mood, demeanor, and entire life. This book talks about the self-limiting beliefs many people have which creates pointless, personal suffering, grief, doubt, and so on. There’s no reason to live with unnecessary weight and self-doubt. Learn to live a free life so that, all the way around, your quality of life, along with those who are around you, can be at its best.

Redwoods and Whales: Becoming Who You Actually Are

Some people like to reach for the spiritual side of things in order to better themselves. In our current society, depression, anxiety, and responsibilities weigh heavy on the average person. This can be too much for some people which has resulted in higher rates of suicide.

Many people don’t know how to reorganize their life so it doesn’t weigh so heavy on them. If you feel like you’re stuck and have no choice in how to live, this book may help. This book takes a spiritual path on learning how to recognize and overcome those obstacles that seem stuck in place.

Boundaries

In this day and age, it’s common to feel pressured to say yes to most things people ask of us. Replying with a big fat no may mean drama will ensue, people will be mad at us, etc. While this might be true, we have to demand respect for ourselves, especially when it’s deserved.

You shouldn’t have to say yes to everything in order to keep friends and feel like everything is going to be ok. This book is all about learning when to say yes and learning when to say no and being ok with your decision either way. This is an amazing skill to learn because it can reduce large amounts of stress that can be detrimental in more ways than one.

This book is especially helpful if you or someone near you has codependency, substance abuse, or mentally/behaviorally off issue. I’m not a psychologist but this book has a lot of useful and helpful information which may be what you’re looking for in when examining a sub-par relationship with yourself or someone else.

Never Go Back: 10 Things You’ll Never Do Again

Let’s face it, we can be set in our ways and stubborn with new perspectives. Some of these patterns can be destroying who we are or be detrimental in general to our self-esteem and success. We can be self-sabotaging which is not something we need to add to our plate.

We should be our own number one cheerleader when it comes down to it because life is already full of negativity. No one has or should make time for that! This book covers 10 different patterns or behaviors that we might not even know we’re doing. It then tells us to defeat them, overcome them, and never go back to them.

The Road Back to You

Have you ever found out something about yourself and it shocked you? You truly didn’t know you did something or that you had a certain behavior. Further, once you found out about this behavior, you start realizing that either positive or negative things stem from it.

On top of that, sometimes life gets so busy that we forget the basis of who we are and it’s hard to find our way back to that. This book guides you through self-discovery to find who you are and to locate behaviors that may be causing negative aspects in your life.

Adulting 101

If you find yourself struggling to grasp basic adult skills in basic life situations, this book is for you. There’s no shame in admitting that you just might not know how some things work. Let’s face it. Basic adult skills are not taught in high school. This leaves many people struggling, even if they’ve already moved out and lived on their own for awhile.

There’s no reason you have to keep stumbling through life without the basics to support you. Adulting 101 covers everything that was never taught about being an adult.

Atomic Habits

As mentioned in a previous book (habits are HUGE. Can you tell?), we can tend to get into habits or patterns of behavior that are detrimental to us and those around us. Many times, we might not realize we do these things. These habits affect our daily interactions and behaviors. In order to be successful even in basic day to day details, it’s important to examine ourselves and constantly be bettering ourselves. This book guides us through figuring out how we formed these habits, how to change them, and how to make sure and stay away from the habits that don’t serve ourselves or our objectives.

There are so many wonderful books out there when it comes to bettering ourselves. Sometimes, we might not even know where our most obvious areas of opportunity lie. However, we know we have something that needs to change and we always have something we can better. If you’re a personal development enthusiast like myself you probably understand this already.

The great thing about most of these books is that they understand this aspect as well. They explore many areas of our life, even if we’re not sure which area needs the immediate focus.
